Overview
Unicist or Classical homoeopathy is a therapeutic method described and tested with perseverance and empiricism by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann. How it differs from complex homeopathy is that it resets the organism layer by layer in chronological order and achieves the cure without suppressing the symptoms, like the layers of an 🧅.
This approach strictly prohibits ❌ the prescription of multiple medicines at the same time, unwanted repetition, etc. A patient might need multiple medicines, but one after another, not altogether. That will be after a long interval when the symptom picture of that patient changes 💡.
Many well-known homoeopaths are following this mode of treatment and they all are very successful in their practice 👩‍⚕️.
In this article, I am presenting a case in which you can see the order of cure and understand more about the unicist homoeopathic approach.
Case of hypothyroidism
This patient is a 24 year old female with hypothyroidism. Her symptoms are below,
- She had hair fall and powdery like dandruff
- Her menses cycle was irregular and mostly late. She gets menses on alternative months with dysmenorrhoea on the first day and the flow lasts for 6 days. The flow is more on the initial days
- She had pimples on her face, more on her forehead
- She used to get a headache out of stress from work in the evening
Past history
- She had Pneumonia when she was 6 years old and it was treated with allopathic medicine
- She had a tenia infection in the past which was suppressed with an allopathic ointment
- No fever for several years
Family history
Generals
- She has a good appetite and drinks 1.5–2 liters of water per day. She likes to drink lukewarm or normal water
- No specific desires or aversion
- Sleep on abdomen
Mental emotional
- Easy-going character and she enjoys the time more with friends and she loves traveling
- Indolence to work and she doesn’t like to take responsibilities
- Heedless
- She was feared of darkness, ghost, being alone at night, and had anxiety about the health of herself
- There were no particular incidents or stress before the hypothyroidism
I prescribed her Lycopodium 1M /1 dose considering the following symptoms,
Strong fear of ghost and darkness, heedless, avoid taking responsibility, desire company, anxiety about her health, headache from mental exertion, and in the evening, prefer to drink lukewarm water (lycopodium doesn’t like cold water), sleeping on her abdomen
The desire for sweet and cowardly nature is absent in this case which peculiar symptom of lycopodium.
As I mentioned earlier in unicist homoepathic treatment, the suppressed symptoms or the symptoms which are not treated well will reappear in chronological order.
It is clear from the history of the patient that she had a tenia infection suppressed with allopathic ointment. So I did tell her that the tenia will reappear and will go off completely after the treatment before I gave her the medicine. Because patients tend to use ointment without telling us if anything appears on their skin and thus spoil the case.
Below is her TSH test report before we started treatment.
Case follow ups
First, follow up
I took the follow-up of the patient in February. In December the tenia infection reappeared on axillae and was gone by itself. Now she has pimples more on her forehead. Her menses are still late but started to have menses every month(Dec, Jan, Feb). She has had no more episodes of headaches on stress since January. Fear of the patient remained the same.
Following symptoms indicated the improvement in the case,
The old symptom of tenia reappeared after medicine, pimples becomes more on the forehead, and episodes of headache were absent for the past 2 months. Her TSH level is reduced to 8.5 from 12. I gave her a placebo since the case showed improvement.
Below is the screenshot of the TSH test report during the first follow-up.
Second, follow up
I took the second follow-up in April on her request, because she now has more episodes of headaches on stress from work. She also didn’t have menses in March. Her fear of ghosts and darkness and generals remain the same.
On April 20th, I gave her Lycopodium 1M considering the above symptoms. The next day after medicine (on April 21) she got menses.
Third, follow up
I took the 3rd follow-up in August. She had recurrent styes in July. At first, it was on the right upper eyelid, and then it was on the left upper eyelid. Her fear of ghosts reduced very much and also now she doesn’t fear the darkness. She now drives alone at night and also sleeps alone. She also started to take responsibility and started doing things more independently. Her menses are still late. Now she doesn’t have any pimples and styes.
All the above symptoms indicate that the patient improved on deeper levels. Hence I gave her a placebo this time.
Below the screenshot is the test report during 3rd follow-up.
She become COVID positive in September and was treated with Bryonia 200, 2 doses, and Bryonia 1 M, 1Â dose.
The patient got this acute after several years, which is a very positive indication that her defensive mechanisms(immune system) have started functioning normally now. Getting a fever is considered a bad sign of immunity in the general population. But it is not (except in some cases).
This is one of the cases which I have treated with unicist homoeopathic approach and it’s clear from this case that I have only prescribed a single remedy all the time. Also, we saw that the symptoms which were suppressed have reappeared during the course of treatment. I encourage all homoeopathic doctors to follow this approach. Let’s heal the world together🤝 with Homoeopathy🙂.
